County Wicklow, Ireland- 18th and 19th September

The upper lake by St Kevin's Monastic Site

After we left Dublin we went for a bit of a drive through the County Wicklow area - famous for it's lovely  countryside, and because Jane's Great Grandmother grew up there. We went to Tinahely, which is the nearest town, but couldn't quite find Rosnastraw, the exact spot. We had a wee drive around, but the motorhome is not the best rural reconnaissance vehicle, so we had to give up. We got close though.

We also saw The Powerscourt water fall (not powerscout, which I kept calling it) which at almost 400 feet tall is Ireland's highest waterfall. Very pretty.

Me, giving a tiny thumbs up.

We visited Glendalough and saw St Kevin's Monastic Site, which was founded in the 6th Century. All very ruined and picturesque, and our introduction to the Irish 'Round Tower'. The one here is 30m high and virtually untouched from when it was first constructed (the roof has been rebuilt).

So a lovely diversion into the countryside after the city scape of Dublin. Well worth the trip, as the whole area is beautiful.

The double arches of the Gateway.  Apparently this is now totally unique in Ireland.
